Outro[edit]

Hi All,

The past couple of days have been awesome! Many of you have voiced the newline event as a success. I'd hereby like to thank all the people that were present for making this yet another worthwhile Newline.

Special thanks go out to everyone who made this possible by helping out with making arrangements, preparing food, bar-tending, logistics etc... Also big THUMBS UP to all the people that prepared a talk/demo or presentation! Although, I was a bit saddened to see the low amount of people attending talks. Possible patches for this problem are welcome.

It is my hope that this edition of 'Newline' will function as a double entendre. Last couple of months the moods were down, the state of the space went from stagnating to close to /dev/null. Hell, Newline 2014 came close to never have taken place...

But we managed..; The weekend felt like a bright light in dark times. A source for hope. All of this was not merely the result of the hard work by a few. It's the energy of all of you that attended the conf and shared story's and laughs over a beer with one-another. You who shared great knowledge and experiences. It's you who made this great! Now don't stop there... continue being awesome and excellent so that we might have a Newline 2015!

Thank you!

- Mimor

Goals[edit]

Goal for Newline 2014: OOFI*

  • OOFI = +100 attendees and an Overload Of Fun and Interresting talks/people.

Invite[edit]

We like to invite you to the FOURTH installment of our annual hackerspace conference called Newline. Now with last-minute organisation and planning. So come all and have a good time with what as become a yearly small (but extremely cozy) gathering in Ghent.

Most of you know the drill: short accessible talks, food that's warm and not poisonous, cold beer and mate and steaming coffee.

Why would you come? Glad you asked. It is an excellent opportunity to learn cool stuff and meet new people. It's peer-organised, free (as in beer *and* in speech) and, quite frankly, we'd love you to show up.

This minicon will kick off on Friday the 28th with our infamous pre-party. Followed on Saturday (not too early in the morning) by a day of talks, workshops and unforseen events and general chaos. Sunday is clean-up and chill-out.

We can't provide sleeping place for people seeking these. But we do have meditation-rooms where you can meditate till the sun rises!

Schedule[edit]

We'd like to invite you to the FOURTH instalment of our annual hackerspace conference called Newline. So come all and have a good time with what has become a yearly small (but extremely cozy) gathering in Ghent.

Most of you know the drill: short accessible talks, food that's warm and not poisonous, cold beer and mate, steaming coffee served by an italian temperamental coffeemaker.

Why would you come? Glad you asked. It's an excellent opportunity to learn cool stuff and meet new people. It's peer-organised, free (as in beer *and* in speech) and, quite frankly, we'd love you to show up.

This minicon will kick off on Friday the 28th of March with our infamous pre-party. Followed on Saturday (not too early in the morning) by a day of talks, workshops and unforseen events and general chaos. Sunday is clean-up and chill-out.

We are a community driven event and are still looking for people who want to contribute. There are open spots in our schedule for talks and workshops. These can be about a wide range of topics,technical or other. If you know someone who would like to give a talk, please forward this invitation to them.

Don't ask what Whitespace can do for you, ask what you can do for Whitespace.

CFP[edit]

NEWLINE 2014 CALL FOR PAPERS.
-----------------------------

Newline 2014 - 28/03 to 30/03 - Whitespace - Blekerijstraat 75, Gent, Belgium

Yes!!!! It's that time again, Ze New Line is upon us! Rejoice!
As every year we invite hackers, makers, coders, artists and
all our drinking buddies to this un-conference-like party.

Visitors of the past editions know: It's a small conference,
you come over to be yourself and meet a lot of new (and old)
friends.

Reply to this CFP sign up with a small talk, a demo, a show
and tell. And we will welcome you to our event with great
regards.

Talk rooms are very small and cozy and our visitors don't bite.

It's really not a real conference unless you share a bit of your
interests. Really, the best way to enjoy this event is to give a
talk and share some of the stuff you care about.

What can you talk about? Simple answer: Plenty of things.

There are different tracks:

- I <3 Foo:
	{You've got some piece of software/hardware/technology you love, but
	you didn't write it, never even submitted a well written bug report.
	Yet Foo makes your life easier/more fun/less boring. Come over and
	share your experiences with us! Tell us what we're missing.}

- I do Bar:
	{You've got some practical skill, in-depth knowledge about Bar, you can
	share with your fellow hackers. You're not the talker but more action-
	oriented. Cool! Give us some Idea what you want to do, and we'll get
	some interested people in a small and cozy room with you. But not too
	close}

- I know Baz:
	{Awesome, your in-dept knowledge on Baz will enlighten us all, you're
	the kind of speaker that can keep a room on the edge of their seat for
	an hour and still, keep the questions flowing after the talk}

- I think qux:
	{Here are you, with your opinion. You want to give a political, philoso-
	phical, ethical statement. You want to pitch an idea and welcome comments.
	You're a pastafarian that wants new followers, a politician without voters,
	a rebel without a cause/clue. Feel free to join us, we'll dust off our
	soapbox for ya.}

We need the following to make this a great event:
- Short accessible talks (20min or less)
- Longer In-depth talks (30min or longer)
- Workshops
- Demo's
- Performances

Excited? So are we!
 - Sign up for a talk here: http://tinyurl.com/newlinecfp
